Tattoo Regret – Getting a Tattoo Removed

The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that nearly 20% of people with tattoos have considered tattoo removal.

Tattoo removal is usually done by laser. The color of the laser light used in the removal, depends on the color ink used in the tattoo. Some colors are easier to remove than others. Colors that are easier to remove: blues, blacks and reds. More difficult ink colors to remove are peachy/pinks, greens, tuquoise colors.

The laser is targetted on the tattoo and makes a popping sound each time the light is released. The process can be as painful as getting the tattoo in the first place. Many treatments may be required to completely remove the tattoo, depending on it’s size, coloration and complexity.

How does Tattoo Removal work?

Tattoo removal by laser works by breaking up the molecules of the ink located in the dermis layer of the skin. It breaks up the ink molecules into parts that are more easily carried away by the blood stream.

Reasons to Have Your Tattoo Removed

The reasons for tattoo removal are many. Some people want to remove their tattoos because they no longer represent who they are – they’ve changed since they got their tattoo.  Some get tattoos removed because they were for a boyfriend/girlfriend, wife/husband who is now a ex. Some remove them because the tattoo didn’t turn out as expected. Other have their tattoo removed because it was the result of a drunken decision.

Tattoo removal is more available and easier than it once was, and recent formulations of ink are even easier to remove if you change your mind.
