Beautiful Butterfly Tattoos – This time it’s tribal

Found these tribal style butterflies, well, and one fairy. The wings are amazingly intricate, sort of hard and soft at the same time. Butterflies make a great tattoo design because they are usually symmetrical with two wings. This design is one where you can use lots of colors and different patterns to personalize it into something special and unique.

I think my favorite is the Monarch butterfly, even though orange isn’t my favorite color, I really like the pattern of light and dark, the contrast is so pretty.

Tattoos for geeks? Well, why not? The OP got one of Tux ala the graffiti style IBM ads. (not a geek? wonder who Tux is: look at the pic in this article, Tux is the penguin on the lower right, you know Linux, computer operating system? OK fine, just take my word for it) The discussion is interesting, but you’ll have to head to the links to Flickr for the pics. Lots of discussion on how they might regret it later and other examples of tattoo ideas ala geek. What do you think?

Summer seems to be the time for tattoos. Must have something to do with running around on the beach or at the lake half naked. Party! Anyhow, here’s a few of the popular tattoo designs we’ve seen this summer.

Ethereal designs, open and light like a summer breeze. These designs are are open and free flowing, incorporating organic curves with butterflies and dragonflies. Accent them with your favorite color.

Flowers are summer. What better way to keep summer with you always, than to have a small flower to remind you. Sweet and romantic.

Tattoo Design Advice, Use a Calendar?

Saw this over at Kotaku and thought this was one of the best pieces of advice on how to make sure your tattoo design is one you will love. Kingclip explains that a buddy of his has 10 great tattoos. His trick? When he comes up with a design idea for a tattoo, he marks it down on a calendar to reconsider in one year. That’s right – put it on a calendar and if you still love the idea in a year, it’s probably a choice that makes sense for you. Seriously, you might outgrow the idea next week and who wants to be stuck staring at a bad choice inked permanently on your body forever?

Chinese Supermarket or Boyfriend’s Name?

Just watched this video about the girl who got the Chinese tattoo that didn’t mean what she thought it did. How would you feel if you went to get a tattoo on your tummy and you decided on getting your boyfriend’s name in Chinese? You’d feel pretty good, right? Wrong, because you just found out that the Chinese characters indelibly inked on your belly say something more along the lines of "Supermarket". Bummer.

Research Foreign Language Tattoos

Learn a lesson from Joanna’s mistake. You should research any tattoo that includes wording or lettering in a language other than those you read. Note I said read, not speak. If you can’t be sure of the translation then don’t do it. Do your research and check it out first. Go to the library, look around online, but don’t just take their word for it – make sure you know. This is a permanent piece of body art we’re talking about – not a sticker you can take off, if it turns out to be embarrassing.

Cool Tattoos in November

Here’s a list of some of the favorite tattoos people found here in the last few weeks. November has been an interesting month tatoo-wise.

Grim Reaper Tattoo This is one wicked looking grim reaper, complete with skull face, scythe blade and hooded cloak.
Winged Heart This heart with wings, with a 3D effect. Would make a nice lower back piece.
Pirate Tattoo Classic peg legged pirate with cutlass, dueling pistol and tri-horn pirate’s hat. Kind of a black beard looking pirate. Also has a nice ribbon scroll at the bottom to add your own wording.
Captured Angel Tattoo Captured angel in shackles and really large detailed wings.
Baby Ladybug Little baby in a ladybug costume on a yellow flower, this reminds me of Anne Geddes’ baby portraits. It’s a sweet tribute to your little one. With the right artist, you could have them make it your baby’s face.
The Moon, a Lunar Wave Circle This circular tattoo features the moon and the waves. It’s a really deep play on the affect of all things lunar, on the ocean, on our planet and on us.
Drama Faces Drama Tattoos, with a twist. These face masks feature one with devil horns and the other with an angel’s halo.

All of these are great tattoo ideas, the detail, as always, is amazing.
